Just want to let everyone know that planning in in the works for Yuri's Night Houston 2008.

Visit the website to learn more: http://www.yurisnighthouston.net/

The Houston 2008 celebration, hosted by the American Astronautical Society, is shaping up to the largest space celebration in history! We are celebrating the 50th anniversary of space flight and planning a celebration that will be the first of its kind in Houston. The Yuri’s Night Houston organization has partnered with the organizers of the Bay Area Motorcycle Rally to throw a celebration that will attract thousands of visitors from around the United States and the World! In fact, the motorcycle rally is a family friendly event based on a sister event held annually in Ruidoso, NM that attracts more than 35,000 visitors from 32 states. The inaugural Houston event will include a huge exhibit area, an all day Texas music festival, two VIP areas, a David Beverly Memorial Ride, and a ton of educational events. This event is supported by the local cities, chambers of commerce, and numerous sponsors.

I'll post updates to the event here and if anyone out there is in the area, let me know and we'll get you involved!

great work Alan, make sure

great work Alan, make sure to register it at www.yurisnight.net. There are tons of things going on in Houston. In fact, JSC is having a Yuri's Night after the success of the Yuri's Night event at NASA Ames last year.

Kevin, I'm already working

Kevin, I'm already working with the group.

They are looking at doing something really big out at the Space Center, but there will be like a $25 cost to it. I'm part of the planning committee with them now and we're looking for a way to take a live feed from the event to a downtown Houston bar so that people can come to an event for free and celebrate there too. Once we get an OK from JSC on it we will start working with a local bar.

Many in the 18-40 range do not want to shell out $25 and/or drive to Clear Lake (it's 45 mins from me on the west side of Houston). So this will bring in a different crowd of people to get them enthused about space.

I'll keep people updated on what happens...

Wow, sounds cool having the live feed. Last year, the event at NASA Ames had 4,000 people who paid $20, this year they are moving it up 8,000 people.

Look forward to hearing about your event!

feedback

Hi Alan,

It sounds like a great idea to organise a live feed and linkage between a multitude of venues. Could you please let me know how successful the live feed was and whether it will be something that will continue running in future? I think it would be a great idea to work on similar networks between different venues in other cities in order to make it more accessible to a wider audience.

Many thanks,

Daniela
