Hot on the heels of Jamaica's first Space Gen NPoC appointment is the first ever celebration of Yuri's Night in Jamaica!
This event is being hosted by the Astronomical Association of Jamaica (AAJ), in Kingston, Jamaica's capital. The AAJ is the premeir Space/Astronomy Group in Jamaica and is the Single Point of Contact (SPoC) for the International Year of Astronomy 2009 (IYA2009).
Yuri's Night is themed on the beginnings of human spaceflight with the anniversary of the launch of Yuri Gagarin, the first human to enter Space. It also celebrates the launch of the Space Shuttle, the stalwart workhorse in human spaceflight. The celebration generally focuses on the many human spaceflight milestones in the past century and the promise of great moments ahead on our pathway to the stars.
