Looking for Project Assistance on Geocaching at the IAC
Hey!
I'm coordinating a Geocaching event on behalf of the UN International Committee on GNSS- Youth for GNSS (YGNSS) Project at the IAC in Glasgow, Scotland, and I am looking for some interested and/or knowledgeable geo-cachers out there to help with one part of our YGNSS Project.
Rather than simply read about the uses of GPS and the need for the youth to promote interoperability and compatibility in Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), people need to first understand how GNSS will impact their lives in the simplest manner possible and in one way that will grab their attention- games and prizes. However, geocaching is not limited to just the youth, as it will allow participants of all ages to gain a better understanding of how to use a GPS handset.
While we have the support of GPS handsets and permission from IAC under discussion, we will need help coordinating the overall game plan before the IAC and set-up a few days before the event.
We will need project members to help with working out a geocache game structure that works in the confines of the IAC center (we will have the blueprints hopefully) and write out instructions for distribution at the event. Since this will be a fun interactive activity, we're looking for creative minds and experienced geo-cachers that can help make this more exciting! Please let me know via email (stephanied.wan@gmail.com) or through our SGC Project Forum (http://www.spacegeneration.org/forum/374). Looking forward to seeing you all at the SGC and IAC!
Cheers,
Stephanie
Fantastic! What is your email address (just email me at stephanied.wan@gmail.com) ?? Would love to get your help!! I hope you apply for the SGC 2008 in the next few days if you haven't and specify yourself that you're interested in our team. Furthermore, I think SGC chooses people who are 'active' (aka the only way to show that is to write more on the ICG/GNSS project forum). looking forward to hearing more from u!! Steph
Thats the first step to go if we want to do a local deployment of GPS handsets or other applications.I do not know as a project team member do I automatically become a member of this unit? If not you can include me.It is also good to let us know the different units and components that form the GNSS project.
The rental of GPS handsets should not be a problem. I am working with some people at NASA to discuss with the GPS industry on having them loan us some of their handsets for this project. However, we're still on the beginning stages of this discussion (though it has been a positive meeting in the past). While I am working with So Young on the project proposal to send to IAC for permission, we will need to further work on how to play this "geocache" game that will fit into the framework of IAC grounds to make it sucessful.
Hello Stephanie,
I am very much interested to work with your team. And I would be able to provide you lot of support on Geocaching event because the last six years I have been working with GIS profession. Also working with SGC working forum last five years and got the SGC scholarship. But unfortunately due to the unavoidable reason I could not attained their.
Including this I have also participated in a UN international Training programme on remote sensing at Stockholm University, Sweden.
Please could you inform me about the process to join in your team?

hi M M Uddin,
The first step is to apply for the SGC 2008 and try to choose the ICG/GNSS project. Do check out the ICG/GNSS project forum for more information on what we are working on and continue with adding into the forum with your ideas as well. I am currently traveling right now so I cannot give you a longer reply. But once selection of delegates are chosen, we will push forth rapidly in discussion on how to approach the 3 project activities we have planned, including geocaching.
regards,
Steph
ps. I got your email and will add you onto the list of interested project members from now on :)
