1 page output summary

I have a request from Mark Lupisella from the Secure World Foundation, our point of contact from the symposium side of things, to remind you about the 1-page output summary that the Planetary Society has agreed to fund.

We want to capture the youth vision on a one page "brochure" - maybe front and back, probably glossy. Minimally, Mark is thinking the top 10 ideas on a nice background design. This could be something that one of us can try working on, but also some MIT students and the Planetary Society will be working on a design too. However, if someone wants to put the time in for a design, theirs may get chosen.

Mark says:
What i'm really saying is that another challenge for folks to think creatively about is how to represent the youth vision in a brochure type format - something that really catches the eye - PS will fund. Would need short sweet compelling sentences - some dramatic and provocative language is probably ok... this is a time to be bold.

So, two actions:

  1. We need to get our results summarised 4 weeks before the symposium so we can start finalising this one page summary. This will also be sent the the senior participants ahead of time
  2. If you have time, create a design for the hand out.

Do we only need a summary

Do we only need a summary for round one then?

Ideally of round two, but we

Ideally of round two, but we will have to start with our round 1 data and get a draft out, finalising with the round 2 data if we get it done in time.

I'm waiting for the draft survey questions so I can get the survey forms started. How are we going?

Draft survey questions available

Hey Chris,
I posted a summary of all questions that were proposed here as draft survey questions- please see the file share and pdf in the new forum topic. I leave for holidays from 10-18th march. I can help out in full capacity once back from there. I hope this helps
My 2 cents.

Going well. At this point I think it might be better to just use what we already have up. I am leaving for a week long vacation tomorrow for spring break so I will have limited and intermittent internet access. Ill try to post a list of my favorite questions in some sort of usable order if I get time tomorrow.

2 suggestions on writing the draft summary

Hello, everyone. Sorry for my recent absence from the web discussion. And it’s nice to be able to join the discussion again after my internet proxy problem being solved. Anyway, if I haven't got it wrong, I think we firstly need a summary for round 1 survey, and then a round 2 survey form. So having summarized most of the survey results we’ve got, I think 2 important issues should be considered on writing the draft summary for the 1st round:

1. What have been the major motivations of space activities? And what will that be in the next 50 years? Scientific, commercial or political needs? Answering and discussing these questions with that we’ve got in the 1st round survey, we may get a good part of the summary, in which we could cover at least 60% of the survey entries/results.

2. How to ensure the peaceful use of space? Through the many suggestions mentioned in the survey results, we can list some solutions and discuss corresponding possibilities as another part of the summary. Actually, I think this is a good chance to express our “youth vision”.

Above are just my 2 suggestions. And I have yet no clear picture of what the structure of the summary should be like. So hopefully someone would come up with an idea, then we can work on it together.

These are great

Sheng,
I just collected all the responses I had received a couple of days back and placed them as potential questions for the survey, you can see the new file in the file share (2nd Round survey questions) or as a pdf. What you suggest here are excellent points, and I think the answers for both were clearly amongst the responses we got, so are not featured as questions - but they can certainly go into the highlights of the 1st round summary.

Thanks!

By the way, what is the approximate required size of the brochure design?
Thanks.

It will be a single sheet, double sided.

It will be a single sheet, double sided. I am guessing US letter size, not A4 since it will be printed in the US. The cost of this brochure will be kindly covered by the Planetary Society.

The brochure should be the bold statement of our key recommendations. The recommendations can be fleshed out more in a full report, that we will need to have in draft form at the congress. The actual report can be finished after we incorporate the results of the workshop discussion.

Don't forget we will also need a power-point presentation or similar, to show at the workshop as well. that can match the one-page summary.

100th post

Ok perhaps a three section one where part A would be direct followup to round one questions, Part B would be Methods to achieve those goals, and part C is on Earthly solutions through space.

Great.. That does sound

Great..

That does sound really good. I posted a summary of all the questions that had been suggested for round 2 here (please see new forum and file share). Perhaps we can break these into part B, C, etc - but please take care not to make it too long.

Thanks!
