This is a forum for suggestions for future products of the SGAC Public Relations Team. This includes anything involving publicizing, promoting, or otherwise making known to various audiences SGAC, SGC, and products and partners of SGAC/SGC.

If an idea from this forum becomes a priority, it'll get its own forum topic in the "Project Work" forum for spinoff work.

Okay, just lost this, so

Okay, just lost this, so typing again:

* the safe: press kit promo poster, bookmarks, promo DVDs, etc.
* fun yet also standard: party style promo postcards (like the ones from bars), stickers, yearbooks for the event with pics where people get to sign and write KIT into in there at the event, coffee cups/ water bottles, t-shirts (money maker too)
* the irreverent: lighted bouncy balls, frisbees, snap bracelets

more I probably lost in the last submission :P

Some ideas?

So, I've been thinking of some things we can do to spread the SGC/SGAC word. Word-of-Mouth recruiting is the most effective way of advertising anything. Maybe we could make a template for business cards that if a delegate were interested in having them printed on their own, they could do so and carry them around to give out. I know that when I tell people about SGC/SGAC I'm usually scribbling down the website on a piece of paper or hoping that they will remember it later. I think that if we had professional looking business cards that we can carry in our wallets, pockets, purses, etc., it would be very easy to disperse.

Also, maybe we could make a larger presence of ourselves at various space events by encouraging everyone to wear SGC/SGAC stuff (the SGC polo/pin) when they attend them. It seems kind of like duh, but some people may not think to do it.

I was also wondering if it may be possible to try to get some free PR through the mass media. Is this something we are working on or not? If it's something we'd like to do, I would be happy to get starting on contacting various media outlets. We are a great story...students and young professionals shaping the future of space travel and research. There have been a lot of articles in big magazines here in the US about space tourism and a lot of us are really interested in it. We might be able to appeal to a large magazine through that aspect. Also, through our interest in promoting green space industries and peaceful exploration.

One more thing...whatever happened with the music CD idea that came up at the last SGC?

Any ideas?

biz card flier

Rose Marie,
I LOVE the business card idea... not made as a business card, but as a very cheap to print mini flier that anyone can make...

Print 200 for $10 at a whim.
http://www.amazon.com/Avery-Laser-Clean-Edge-Business-Cards/dp/B00006IBV...

Did a 5-min mockup of a concept for this...
http://www.spacegeneration.org/index.php?q=fileshare/files/44/examples/b...

Simple, simple, but slides right in a business card holder and people are more inclined to keep it around with their biz card haul from conferences than a flier that just goes in with all the other fliers. Every time someone flips through the cards, they'll see it again, and it'll stand out. LOVE IT. I'll work on a design (unless you or someone else gots the skillz and will to do such things!) and add that to the arsenal.

Thank you!

The business card idea is

The business card idea is great- with a website on it.
I think working with media outlets is a great idea- maybe a new forum for this? If the goal is to get people to cover the event, that is much later (recently learned about promotion vs. publicity vs. coverage). But we could start building relationships so that by the time the SGAC meets, press folk will want to cover the event.

how about mini dvd's

alot of peolple in the US have dvd burners
mabe we can make a mini-dvd buisness card
with the sgac logo in the top
including a link database that is a basic format
but everyone can add their own links also
i have 2 dvd burners
and like a thousand dvd's
but this would need a common format

Educational outlets

Tehe, yes Tshirts sounds fun!!!

In the past, I have undertaken work experience with a science communication firm (aimed primarily at providing talks, displays and shows for school children, but also participating in public outreach) and also a children's after school tuition class. Maybe it would be benificial to try and spread the word through institutions such as this, by perhaps providing space based activities or worksheets? Or maybe work with them in order to set up some space based displays or shows?

Could you summarise what you learned wrt "promotion vs. publicity vs. coverage"

This sounds very interesting and any insights are appreciated.
