In addition to some tips given on TALK. i have important info for you.

If you like to travel in and around hyderabad safely to places like golcoda fort, charminar etc.. pls use the government operated service i.e andhra pradesh tourism department services for details just check http://www.aptourism.in/main.html. Price, safety , quality, good guides offered by them can be real help. or you can engage private car on hire (4 people) (max.rs.800 for 8 hrs or so) and also engage one professional guide (rs.500) to be with you for a day.

You can use private services but i basically as person born in hyderabad dont suggest so.

Pubs alcohol etc..: Near the airport there are some top pubs of the city for alcohol, eat outs or chill out . The only prob these days reaching it bcos of flyover construction in that area.

Imax Movie theaters: yes just 5 km from hotel you can visit imax theatrs
price of ticket is Rs.125 it also has lots of shopping things.. eatout etc... with scenic hussainsagar lake (watch out Buddha statue in middle of the lake), necklace road, ntr park and Lumbini park (1.5 km away infamous bomblast place), state governments secretariat(opposite lumbini) accross the road to it.

From imax you can go to Birla temple (made of marble) or Visit Birla Planetarium or visit British Library you can see state legislative assembly.when u reach this place you are at the center of the city to go anywhere.

or during your return from imax you can just ask for "khairtabad Ganesh" there you can see tallest 40 feet idol of ganesha.

Places near IAC 07 venue: Shilparamam (on the road to convention center), Durgam chervu lake (1 km), Botanical Gardens (3 km good place to spend time), Qutubshahi tombs (10 km), university of hyderabad (6 km).

On 25th Sept,07:

Freinds be careful on this day. This is the last day of "Ganesh Festival" all the idols of ganesh are immersed in the lake. so there will large procession of vehicles, people on the roads carrying idols of ganesh (you can enjoy watching them from hotel with different themes .

My suggestion please dont plan any trip for going out on this day, limit your travel (however the iac venue being away from city will be free almost compared to other parts of city on this day).

There will blockade of many roads, traffic problems etc.. begining 12.00 noon to night. State govt already declared 25th a holiday. Lots of police checks etc... power cuts in some areas for passage of very tall ganeshas.Further you will find mischief fellows playing and throwing flowers , colours on passerbys on each other.
