Here's a few things I've come across online that are quite applicable to what we'll be doing.

Basic Press Outreach for Mission-Based Organizations

Advertising and Promotion

...if you've got info like this that you find applicable to SGAC, please post it here!

Thank you!

Watch out with using "Public Relations"

The term Public Relations has a pretty bad annotation to it.

I didn't knew this until I watched the amazing Adam Curtis
BBC 4 documentary "The Century of the Self"

See for yourself (thank you Google video!):

Interesting note about the

Interesting note about the negative vibe associated with 'public relations'. I guess that goes back to the idea behind SGAC PR team (the explicit statement and what I've implied from postings)- to promote the workings of SGAC and get potential members interested interested in the SGAC, as well as to develop the PR skills of the SGAC members.
As some writings on 'PR' imply, public relations can also be about preventing negative press (someone will always find a bad angle- I have personal experience when a press person wrote up the commie angle of Yuri's Night!), trying to promote certain sponsors, getting a certain meme out- however docile the meme may seem to us, etc. PR almost implies hiding something to certain folks.
Maybe outreach and promotion are more benign terms? I personally don't have a problem with the term PR, but maybe others do...
