SGS Overview
The Space Generation Summit (SGS) will bring together 200 international delegates between the ages of
18 and 35 to develop and contribute a youth vision of space to the
World Space Congress
The SGS takes place on the weekend of October 11-13, during which delegates will present the on-going space activities of young people around the world, especially those activities that are direct implementations of the UNISPACE III Space Generation Forum recommendations. New recommendations and action plans implementing the theme 'accelerating our pace in space' will be generated. The Summit is facilitated by the Space Generation Advisory Council - the body through which student and young professionals' views are brought to the United Nation's Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space. UNISPACE III
We are fortunate enough to live in a millennium where it is not war, but the
improvement of people's lives, that drives technology to new frontiers. Our greatest challenge now is to cross the final frontier: to bridge the divide between technology's haves and have-nots, and harness its power to serve all people on this planet...

engage and inspire all young people at World Space Congress. The Space Generation
Summit will be at the center of those activities. The SGS will
establish a
unified youth vision.
for the future of space activities.
The Summit Delegates
The delegates to the SGS are the next generation of space leaders. Drawn from countries around the
world, they represent the best of space-related academia, business, government and art. Building on
networks established during UNISPACE III, SGS organizers will seek out delegates from a diverse range
of countries, backgrounds, industries and professionals.
The Summit Elements
The programme will include break-out discussion groups, guest lectures, panel discussions,
industry presentations, and other events. SGS Delegates will participate in on-line web
discussions and preparation of working documents during the months leading up to the SGS.
Related Conferences
In addition to integrating with the main WSC conferences we shall be
collaborating with the following organisations:
The UN-IAF conference taking place 10-12th October themed on 'Space Solutions for Global Problems: Building Working Partnerships with All Stakeholders in Human Security and Development' - bringing together people from both developing and industrialised nations. The European Space Agency Student Outreach Programme which is sending 220 students, mostly from Europe, to WSC. For more information see http://www.estec.esa.nl/outreach/iaf/ Application deadline: March 31st. If in addition to an interest in taking part in SGS, you are either from Europe or interested in taking part in the UN-IAF workshop, then we would encourage you to apply to either of these porgrammes too - this will mean that you gain more from WSC and are more likely to receive funding.
Collaboration with the Space Policy Summit
SGS delegates and organizers welcome the opportunity to contribute in appropriate
and meaningful ways to the
Space Policy Summit.
We shall submit youth visions and
recommendations to the SPS working groups, and hope to include a young professional
representatives there. The SGS organizers would also invite selected SPS leaders
and delegates to be featured guests at selected SGS events during the summit weekend.
