The Faculty of Exact Sciences is one of Bar-Ilan University's most dynamic faculties, highly acknowledged for its achievements in pure and applied research. The Physics Department conducts active experimental and theoretical research programs in many cutting edge areas of current interest. These include projects in Elementary Particles and Fields, Astrophysics and Gravitation, Condensed Matter and Mesoscopic Physics, Physics of nanostructures and Surface Physics, Nonlinear Physics, Quantum Chaos, Nonlinear Optics and Lasers, Quantum Optics, Atomic and Molecular Spectroscopy, Radiation Physics, Biophysics and Medical Physics.

The ongoing research of the geophysics group deals with plate tectonics and Earthquakes; volcanism; seismology; hydrology; paleomagnetism; geochemistry; geology and space geodesy (GPS).

The atmospheric group explores the physical, chemical and radiative transfer aspects of climate change; numerical model for weather forecasting; clouds, rain and lightning formation; remote sensing and image processing; magneto-hydrodynamic processes

Our school is organized in three departments — Astronomy and Astrophysics, Condensed Matter Physics, and Particle Physics. We also have research groups in applied physics, in bioinformatics, in medical physics, and in plasma physics. We currently employ an academic staff of 45 faculty members, teaching more than 800 undergraduate and graduate students.
