Leading Indian Astronomer visits Sri Lanka

Prof. Jayant Narlikar, a leading Indian astrophysicist, visits Sri Lanka this week on behalf of the International Astronomical Union (IAU) to promote the study of Astronomy. At 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, 4th December he talks on "Why Study Astronomy" at the University of Moratuwa, Department of Electronic & Telecomunication Engineering Seminar Hall 1 (ENTC-1).

He will give two public lectures in Colombo and Kandy on "Facts and Speculations in Cosmology".

The Royal College Astronomical Society (RCAS) in Colombo, Sri Lanka organised an innovative programme titled '40 Years of Space Age & Beyond' (FYOSA 09) under the International Year of Astronomy (IYA) 2009 programmes. The programme held on 8th and 9th December 2009 consisted of a Workshop, Science Fiction Competition and an Exhibition of Apollo 11 moon rocks.
