The Swedish space industry has been growing ever since the launch of the small rocket Plutnik in 1961, which marked the beginning of the Swedish space age. We hope to see the Swedish space activity to grow further and give possibilities for a competitive Swedish space industry
Space in Sweden
Sweden has developed several scientific spaecraft which are shown in the picture bellow.
Many new Swedish satellite missions, such as MATS, are also planned for the future. MATS stand for Mesospheric Airglow/Aerosol Tomography – tomography of light and aerosols in the mesosphere. The satellite project is led by the meteorologist Jörg Gumbel at Stockholm University, also included in the project is Chalmers, KTH and Omnisys. The satellite will study both noctilucent clouds and oxygen molecules in the atmosphere between 50-100 km height, and the waves that e.g. create the shapes of the clouds.
Esrange Space Center
Esrange Space Center is located in northern Sweden above the Arctic Circle. It is the largest civil ground station for satellites in the world and Europe's largest overland test range for aerospace vehicles. Since the start in 1966, more than 500 sounding rockets and 550 stratospheric balloons have been launched from Esrange Space Center.

Young Space Activities Overview in Sweden
The REXUS/BEXUS program offers students across Europe to carry out scientific and technological experiments on research rockets and balloons. Each year two rockets and two balloons are launched from Esrange Space Center.
Christer Fuglesang Space Center Student
Christer Fuglesang Space Center (CFSC) will be built as an inspiring center for science with focus on space technology in Stockholm in the near future. Christer Fuglesang Space Center Student is a student organisation that gives students the possibility to be involved in the new science center. The aim of CFSC Student is to promote natural sciences and technology in Sweden. The organisation wants to inspire young people to choose studies and a career within the field of natural sciences and technology.
SpaceUp Sweden is growing! In 2016 it was the second time the event was held and it was a two-day event attracting about 120 participants. The first day included invited speakers and participants presenting interesting and sparking conversation. Day two contained workshops and continued participant presentations. The event was a great success and the exchange of ideas and networking benefitted the industry, students and academia. Stay updated at SpaceUp Sweden's Facebook page or at the webpage .
